A hybrid EMT course blends online learning with hands-on, in-person training. You’ll complete the academic portion at your own pace through our online platform, with optional weekly live Q&A sessions on Google Meet for support and discussion.
For clinical experience, students obtain patient contacts through their own rescue squad, a clinic, or we can help coordinate with an ambulance transport company if needed.
At the end of the course, you’ll attend a week-long Skills Academy where you’ll receive intensive hands-on training and complete your psychomotor exam, one of the required steps for NREMT certification.

Before starting the course, students need to meet the following requirements (CPR certification can be completed during the program if you don’t already have it):
Be 18 years old
Have a high school diploma or GED
Be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking the English language
Have reliable internet access to complete online coursework
Have no physical or mental impairment that would render you unable to perform all practical skills required at the EMT level
Have a CPR certification for healthcare providers - if you don’t have this yet, we can provide it during the program
Pass a criminal background check via Fieldprint
Not have been convicted of or found guilty of any crime, offense or regulatory violation, or participated in any other prohibited conduct identified in state EMS regulation

Our course typically takes 14-18 weeks, depending on the schedule of the in-person sessions. You’ll have access to online materials at the start of the course (during orientation) and progress through each module with guidance and support from your instructors before attending your in-person training.
-
The online portion is self-paced, so you can complete it on your own time within the course window. We’ll provide a suggested weekly schedule to help you stay on track, but you’re free to move at whatever pace works best for you—as long as you finish before Academy Week.
The in-person skills sessions are scheduled in advance and must be attended in person on the assigned dates.

Our accelerated EMT course is a fast-track option designed to get you certified quickly—typically in 8–10 weeks.
It follows a strict Monday–Friday schedule with daily live Google Meet sessions, and ends with a full Academy Week during the final two weeks for hands-on skills training and your psychomotor exam.
Unlike our standard hybrid course, this is not self-paced—it’s structured and intensive, making it a great fit for students who are ready to fully commit and need their EMT certification as soon as possible.

Our in-person Skills Academy is held in Virginia. The exact location will be provided to enrolled students before the start of the course.
You can find upcoming academy week dates listed on the ‘EMT’ tab of our website—this is also where you’ll enroll.

The textbook is available for purchase through the Public Safety Group website, a division of Jones & Bartlett Learning.

Once enrolled, you’ll have access to the student page of our website. This page includes:

Upon successful completion of this course, you’ll be eligible to take the NREMT exam. Once you pass, you will be awarded your National and Virginia state EMT certifications.
If you plan to work outside Virginia, please visit your state’s Office of EMS website to determine reciprocity and any additional requirements for certification transfer.
You’ll also receive BLS CPR certification as part of the program, if needed.
-
Yes. Our course is specifically designed to fully prepare you for the NREMT exam, which includes both the cognitive (written) and psychomotor (skills) components.
-
Yes—our course prepares you for the NREMT (National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians) exam, which is recognized in most U.S. states. After passing, you can usually apply for EMT licensure in other states through reciprocity or a state-specific process.
If you’re in Virginia, completing our course and passing the NREMT makes you eligible for EMT certification in Virginia—you’ll be testing here, and we guide you through the state licensure process.
For students from out of state, the NREMT is widely accepted and can often be transferred through state reciprocity. Requirements vary, so we recommend checking with the EMS office in the state where you plan to work. You can find links to each state’s licensing info on the NREMT State EMS Agencies page or see if your state participates in the EMS Compact (REPLICA), which allows licensed EMTs to practice across member states.

Here’s a step-by-step overview of how our program prepares you for EMT certification:
⓵ Complete the Course
Finish our state-approved hybrid EMT program, which includes flexible online coursework and required hands-on skills labs.
⓶ Pass the Psychomotor (Skills) Exam
We host the official psychomotor exam at the end of your course, during our in-person Academy Week. You’ll be fully prepared and tested on the hands-on skills needed to function as an EMT.
⓷ Pass the NREMT Exam
We prepare you to take and pass the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) written exam — the certification accepted in most U.S. states.
⓸ State Licensure
Virginia Students: After passing the NREMT exam, your results are automatically shared with the Virginia Office of EMS, and you’ll be issued your state EMT certification—no extra application needed.
Out-of-State Students: Most states accept NREMT — you’ll apply for licensure through your state’s EMS office.
