Frequently Asked Questions

  • You do not need to have everything in place before enrolling. However, you must meet the following requirements by Academy Week (the final week of the course).

    • Be 18 years old

    • Have a high school diploma or GED

    • Have a CPR certification for healthcare providers - if you don’t have this yet, we can provide it during the program

    • Pass a criminal background check via Fieldprint

  • A hybrid EMT course blends online learning with hands-on, in-person training. You’ll complete the academic portion at your own pace through our online platform, with optional weekly live Q&A sessions on Google Meet for support and discussion.

For clinical experience, students obtain patient contacts through their own rescue squad, a clinic, or we can help coordinate with an ambulance transport company if needed.

At the end of the course, you’ll attend a week-long Skills Academy where you’ll receive intensive hands-on training and complete your psychomotor exam, one of the required steps for NREMT certification.

  • Our course typically takes 14-18 weeks, depending on the schedule of the in-person sessions. You’ll have access to online materials right away and move through them with support from instructors before attending your in-person training.

  • Our accelerated EMT course is a fast-track option designed to get you certified quickly—typically in 8–10 weeks.

It follows a strict Monday–Friday schedule with daily live Google Meet sessions, and ends with a full Academy Week during the final two weeks for hands-on skills training and your psychomotor exam.

Unlike our standard hybrid course, this is not self-paced—it’s structured and intensive, making it a great fit for students who are ready to fully commit and need their EMT certification as soon as possible.

  • The online portion is self-paced, so you can complete it on your own time within the course window. We’ll provide a suggested weekly schedule to help you stay on track, but you’re free to move at whatever pace works best for you—as long as you finish before your scheduled in-person sessions.

The in-person skills sessions are scheduled in advance and must be attended in person on the assigned dates.

  • Our in-person Skills Academy is held in Richmond, Virginia. The exact building location will be provided to enrolled students before the start of the course.

You can find upcoming academy week dates listed on the ‘Upcoming Classes’ tab of our website—this is also where you’ll enroll.

  • Upon successful completion, you’ll be eligible to take the NREMT exam. Once you pass, you can apply for EMT certification in Virginia or most other states. You’ll also receive BLS CPR certification as part of the program.

  • Yes. Our course is specifically designed to fully prepare you for the NREMT exam, which includes both the cognitive (written) and psychomotor (skills) components.

  • Yes—our course prepares you for the NREMT (National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians) exam, which is recognized in most U.S. states. After passing, you can usually apply for EMT licensure in other states through reciprocity or a state-specific process.

If you’re in Virginia, completing our course and passing the NREMT makes you eligible for EMT certification in Virginia—you’ll be testing here, and we guide you through the state licensure process.

For students from out of state, the NREMT is widely accepted and can often be transferred through state reciprocity. Requirements vary, so we recommend checking with the EMS office in the state where you plan to work. You can find links to each state’s licensing info on the NREMT State EMS Agencies page or see if your state participates in the EMS Compact (REPLICA), which allows licensed EMTs to practice across member states.

  • Here’s a step-by-step overview of how our program prepares you for EMT certification:

We prepare you to take and pass the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) written exam — the certification accepted in most U.S. states.
